I have been sewing all day on a secret project that I can't show anybody. So in lieu of colourful pretty sewing, this is Grace having a bath at about 5weeks old 😊 Remember I am a vaccinated, trained and licensed carer. Flying the kids in the bathroom. As you do 😂 They can't fall behind any furniture and there are towels they can land on. Thank you to everyone that donated towards rebuilding the enclosure. It will mean I won't have to fly them in a bathroom, bats with bigger echolocation distances can get flight practice and it will be much safer. I am a vaccinated and licenced carer. Do not touch a grounded bat. For yours and the bats safety, call a wildlife organisation for advice. Little microbats are very delicate and our giant fat fingers can easily squish them - leave it to the people that are vaccinated and trained to handle them 😊 #caraandhercreatures #batsofinstagram #vaccinatedandlicencedcarer #batsareNOTpets

Hi everyone. I thought I would post a bat photo or video of mine every few days because right now it is almost winter so the microbats are heading in for hibernation and the flying foxes are starting to migrate north. Today I'm sharing one of my favourites of Grace. This was the day after her rescue and she was still missing her mum. She is a grey headed flying fox (a threatened species). Flying foxes are very emotional creatures that require a lot of tactile reassurance and comfort. When they are orphaned, like in Grace's case, the carers have to step in and become their mums. We give them a "mumma roll" that is roughly the size of the body of an adult flying fox for them to hold onto and wrap them up to replicate the feeling they would have being wrapped by their mother. This is Grace in her mumma roll enjoying her first little face rubs (she looooooves them). You'll hear her adorable little happy squeaks too 😊 Remember I am a vaccinated and licenced carer. Bats are NOT pets. Grace returned to the wild when she was ready. #batsofinstagram #vaccinatedandlicencedcarer #caraandhercreatures #batsareNOTpets
