Many of you have commented on the picture of our little 30gram baby, who was found on the ground during a thunderstorm last week and rescued by two of the ABC volunteers. After much intensive nursing, she is doing well.
We are always looking for sponsors for our orphans, to help them through their journey back into the wild and we are delighted to announce that in her case Johnny Depp has agreed to be this little ones sponsor or "foster father" and we would like to use this forum to thank him on her behalf for his help, and for his interest in Australian fauna and ecology.
She now goes by the name of Jackie Sparrow.
Having just been named, something really extraordinary happened; a male sparrow flew down and sat on a branch on a tree just next to where she was having her bottle this morning. We never see sparrows up here, so it was odd, but are taking this to be a good omen.One of our volunteers works in the film industry and as Jackie was born near where the crew have been working on location. It's great to know that they will all be able to look up to the skies and see the flying foxes taking off to forage and know that one day one of their own will be up there working as one of Australia's much needed flying "Night Foresters".
