Megabat Little Red, mom rescues baby, Flying-fox, Fruit bat

Our good friends Yogi and Stella were out at Tolga scrub today photographing the little reds when they noticed a baby hanging low, fallen from its mum. First challenge was to rescue bub from dense undergrowth while dodging stinging trees and and wait-a-while. Yogi turned his tripod into a rescue pole and baby quickly jumped on board. Hoping its mum wouldn't be too far away we decided to see if we could offer bub back to the bats and hope its mum would come to retrieve it. Stella went home and came back with a 4m long pole. Ashleigh wrapped her jacket around the end of the pole, placed bub on the end and then lifted bub up into the nearby braches. After a few minutes mum ran down the branch and grabbed her bub off the end of the pole. Success, a happy ending and Stella caught all the action on camera!
