Our bat-ographer has taken some of his stunning photos, including a Little Red flying fox in flight, and put them on a range of merchandise on the Red Bubble website.
Juergen Freund - Atherton, Australia

Nature photographer Jürgen Freund was born in Dortmund, Germany. He is fondly called Yogi as Jürgen can be pronounced a million different ways causing him some shivers. His aim as a wildlife photographer is to shoot pictures that tell stories which matter. A mechanical engineer by training, he started his career as an industrial photographer in Germany, acquired an underwater camera, went scuba diving in the alpine lakes and then discovered the warm tropical marine environment. Since 1982, he has done underwater and nature photography, making much of his own equipment to suit his needs.
Yogi’s work, on land, sea and air, has been widely published all over the world. He has had solo exhibitions and has been a prize-winner in many international competitions, including the Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Nature’s Best awards. In partnership with his producer and wife Stella, they work closely with the global network World Wide Fund for Nature the past 2 decades. For 18 straight months, they travelled the Asia / Pacific region of the Coral Triangle, photographing the richness of this hotspot of marine biodiversity for WWF. The result of their unprecedented photographic expedition is a massive collection of images now used extensively to publicise the importance of the region, through many media platforms including exhibitions and two major books, The Coral Triangle and WILDLIFE Under the Waves.

When not on assignment, home base is Tropical North Queensland in Australia where Stella & Yogi lead photographic workshops in the natural environment of Far North Queensland and all around Australia to enthusiastic people excited with nature and photography.
