Week old flying fox rescued at Queens Park Mackay

Week old flying fox rescued at Queens Park
A baby flying fox was found in Queens Park.
LAYING on the ground covered in green ants, a baby flying fox would have been eaten alive if it wasn't rescued. Walking through Jubilee Park Anita Stockwell, noticed something moving and thought it was a snake. As she looked closer a little black bat, no bigger than the palm of her hand was laying on the ground, covered in green ants. She immediately contacted the Australian Wildlife Rescue Service to help. Wildlife volunteer Fay Paterson arrived, picked off the green ants and wrapped the frail creature in a handkerchief. "It's a female and looks about a week old. It's very, very dehydrated at the moment," she said. "She'll be good if we can get her hydrated and warmed up. I'll give her a bath, give her fluids and start her on her milk. She's looking calm now," Mrs Paterson said. Mrs Paterson's advice to anyone who finds an injured bat is not to touch it and to contact the Australian Wildlife Rescue Service on 0447 543 268. "If people can cover them with something, keep the birds off them and ring our number straight away; we'll be there as quickly as possible."
