7th December 2012
Age: Juvenile Sex: Male Weight: 3g

Found: In a bathroom sink in Beachmere, orphaned and very thirsty!

Transported to: The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital by the concerned resident who found him.

Veterinary Assessment: Dr Amber assessed little Sebastian and found he was quiet, alert and responsive with no apparent distress. Luckily he had no injuries, though he was a little bit dehydrated.

Treatment: Dr Amber administered Sebastian fluids to aid hydration, as well as some glucose for his recovery.

Future: Sebastian has been transferred to a wildlife carer, where he will remain until he is big enough for release back into the wild.

AZWH Fact: If you find an orphaned or injured microbat, please DO NOT handle it. Instead, give us a call - our staff are vaccinated against the lyssavirus that bats carry, and are trained to handle them properly. The AZWH is open 24 hours, 7 days a week - even over Christmas!
