"We asked conservation organisations around the world to nominate a species that they believe to be overlooked, underappreciated and unloved, and tell us why they think that they deserve a fair share of the limelight, this Valentine’s Day.

Each nominee’s story is featured on the Arkive blog with information on the species, what makes them so special, the conservation organisation that nominated them and how they are working to save them from extinction. Click on the species below to read about why they deserve your vote before making your final decision.

"In the lead up to Valentine's Day, ARKive asked us to nominate a species we think is overlooked, under-appreciated and (relatively) unloved for some extra attention. What better than the grey-headed flying-fox!?

These glorious animals are vital for healthy ecosystems, highly social and incredibly intelligent, yet their habitat continues to be destroyed while they're shot and subjected to vitriolic treatment throughout their range.

Show you care and help these bats get the much-needed recognition and attention they deserve by checking out their profile ( before casting your vote at!
