Threatened Species Commissioner January 22, 2015
Q: What’s black, red, grey and spectacled?
A: Ask the National Flying-fox Monitoring Program. It has released the results of its August 2014 count of black, little red, grey-headed and spectacled flying foxes, after surveying more than 400 camps across the country. The Department of the Environment and CSIRO have worked with the states and territories since 2012 on regular snapshots of the population and distribution of these species, especially the nationally-threatened grey-headed and spectacled flying foxes. The latest count was the eighth in the series, and you can use an interactive map to explore flying fox camps and species numbers over time.
