RESIDENTS in Gayndah are going batty over the town's flying fox problem and are due to meet at the Town Hall tonight to discuss the growing bat colony.

Proprietor of the Golden Orange Hotel Motel Ken Mogg said the disturbance and smell that the bats created had cost him thousands of dollars in lost revenue.

“I would hate to experience it again from a business point of view,” Mr Mogg said.

“From September last year up until Christmas time they had a real big impact.

“I would say that it has cost me between $30,000 and $35,000 simply because of the smell. It is atrocious and I understand people don't wish to stay or to have a meal in the beer garden.”

The Department of Resource and Environment Management said last week that trees would be lopped to deprive the bat colony of a habitat. Action is on hold as the bats are breeding.
