new bat babies - Mexico

new bat babies

It’s the circle of life. And it’s the reason Mexican free-tailed bats migrate north from Mexico each spring: to bear a new generation of bats.
Every year in early June, the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin and Bracken Bat Cave near San Antonio become nurseries. Births take less than two minutes each as the mother bats, hanging head down, catch the new-born pups in their wings. In just two months, these small, hairless newborns will be weaned and learning to fly and hunt insects each night.
From the moment of birth, bats play an essential role in maintaining the health of our planet. This summer, say thank you by visiting a bat-viewing location near you. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.
