Rescue done today - barb wire.
Grey-headed male megabat.weight - 410g.
measurement - 147mm
Died just as I got there.
The barb wire had just been put up this week.
The caller (male) (barb wire installer) was very upset and distressed. The bat wasn't caught up in the wire yesterday. Must of been last night. He was/seem to be flying into the trees. and as before the barb wire wasn't there. the trees are covered in blossom.
The caller has advise that in future he will be discussing other alternatives and discourage barb wire. as he said, its useless. if they want to break in they will just cut the fence. there is no need for barb wire.
I will return to the site to check up. I will also go back to the site on Friday and see if i can talk to the site workers and leave contact details for RSPCA and our rescue number. And if they can regularly check the fence.
The council needs to be advised and also about the mess that has been left in the water system. (see pics/video). The property on one side of the fence is council and the other is private.
