Event Bat workshop entertains students

FRIENDS of Cornish Hill has been working with the Daylesford Dharma School to raise awareness of bats in the ecosystem.

Last month, Arthur Ryler PHD student Caroline Wilson brought a real life bat into a classroom for a workshop, made possible by a Hepburn Shire grant.

She then visited Daylesford Secondary College to further promote bats' importance.

Friends of Cornish Hill's Margaret Thomas said ever-increasing human populations were putting more and more pressure on remaining bat habitats.

"Pollution and use of pesticides has contributed to a decline in bat populations and the friends are keen to make sure they continue to play a role as important pollinators of hardwood and native fruit trees," she said.

The project will culminate with a "bat street art installation" outside the Daylesford Library on Friday, October 31.
