UPDATE - 11/03/2017
Some good news! The NSW Heritage Council has now begun the process of listing Cliefden’s caves and fossils on the State Heritage Register. This will provide much greater protection for this unique and precious site – if the Heritage Council endorses the listing.
But it’s not a certainty and they need to hear your voice.
As part of their listing process, a public consultation period is currently taking place. The Heritage Council is seeking submissions from community members, organisations and other interested parties by March 14.
It’s very important that many voices are heard. Please make your submission by March 14. We have put together a guide to assist you have your say to the Heritage Council here on our website, which includes their contact details. You can find their criteria for listing here. You can also view the Heritage Council's letter to the Save Cliefden Caves Association here.
The chorus to protect Cliefden is getting louder, and we need as many submissions as possible supporting the listing.
On Monday, we saw Cowra Council publicly support the heritage listing of the site, with Councillor Ray Walsh saying “It’s not only the caves, the area feeding the caves needs to be protected as well.”
Thanks for your support to date – let’s get more protection for Cliefden and keep the public pressure on both the state government and bureaucrats to save this natural wonder.
