Barbed wire | Rescue | THIS IS WHAT I DO checking barbed wire in my own time. volunteer.

Buba Ganoush, baby Grey-headed Megabat, Flying-fox, Fruit bat, Australia Zoo

19th October 2015Age: Juvenile Sex: Male Weight: 75gms

Found: Buba Ganoush was sadly left an orphan after his mum was caught in barbed wire in Kidaman Creek, QLD.

Transported to: The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital by a local wildlife carer.

Veterinary Assessment: After a thorough examination, Dr Amber found that Buba Ganoush had a sinus infection however he had thankfully escaped any serious barbed wire injuries.

Treatment: Dr Amber gave Buba Ganoush antibiotics for his sinus infection and transferred him to a registered wildlife carer the same day.

Outcome: Buba Ganoush will remain in care until he becomes fully independent and ready for life in the wild. Once he has reached independence, he will be released back into his home range but away from any potential risks.

AZWH Fact: Grey headed flying foxes play an important part in our healthy forests as they pollinate and disperse seeds. Unfortunately they are listed as vulnerable due to habitat destruction.
