rescue megabat black male both wing membrane destroyed and dislocated left leg pelvis. dog attack 10/01/2016
Very old boy and big arm muscles.
He was kind to me.
Bite mark across chess. so he would have be rapidly shaken left to right.
Absolute disgrace.

Unfortunately, Bat caring is not all positive stories. This poor guy was bought into the Clinic after being rescued by one of our carers from a Dog attack. He was a very healthy adult Flying Fox with big arm muscles, but Bats are totally defenseless against dog attacks. As you can see, he had major membrane damage, a dislocated leg, and bite marks across his chest where he would have be rapidly shaken left to right by the dog. There was nothing that could be done, and he had to be euthanized.
Once again, I stress that Bats are defenseless against attacks by most animals, and if you see a bat on the ground, keep all animals away from it and call your local bat group. Bats are not solitary animals, and if they are alone, there is a fair chance there is a problem with it. RIP big fella
