Who's interested in a research project? This pallid bat (Antrozous pallidus) is eating a scorpion in New Mexico. While filming the Secret World of Bats documentary, Merlin saw a Pallid bat get stung 21 times in the face and it didn't even wince! It did however promptly bite off the pinchers upon catching the scorpion snack, no immunity for pinching. We don't know why yet but Pallid bats are apparently immune to scorpion stings! It's possible that other bats are also immune, but the subject has yet to be studied. There's still so much to learn about bats! Any scientists out there up to the challenge?
