Mother and child series. Female Spectacled flying fox ( P. conspicillatus) Breeding season from September to November, is an important time of year for this species, aa they only give birth to 1 offspring each year, after a gestation of 7 months. Young bats cling to their mother's underside until about one month old, when they become too heavy to carry and are left in the roosting tree. They remain nursing off mum for about 4 months. They reach adult size, approximately 25cm in length and weighing 0.5kg at 2 years, they are sexually dimorphic and males can almost weigh twice as much 1000g, . Not much is known about their natural life expectancy in captivity they have lived to 17. The colony on the river for some reason seems very unstable compared with other years and they are moving around a lot. The other day and the whole colony moved and I was able to get many photos so beware many more to come.
